Adventures at Horse Pens 40

Horse Pens 40

We loaded up the truck last fall and headed out to Horse Pens 40, a little private park just northeast of Birmingham on I-59. Josh, Blake, and I went to meet Bobby and Amanda from Chatanooga to see what we could get into. When we first arrived, we did not notice that Bobby had already got us a primo campsite and we set up camp in a not so perfect spot. We got there on a Friday night, and the next day we took out to the rocks for a little "bouldering". This is the first time I had heard of this term and for those not informed, bouldering is the climbing of small rocks, while rock climbing is used when your climbing the big rocks. Here is the spot that Bobby had reserved for us..As you can see the trees where changing into their fall colors and made for some good shots check out the one of the red tree below...
This rock was called mushroom rock for odvious reasons.
Several large rocks were strangely placed on top of other rocks, and the channels between rocks showed that at one time this place had a river running through it.
We took a break and played hide and go seek in the rocks below.

Josh wanted me to take this pic so he could show his father how his money is being spent.
Josh and Bobby climbed this rock without a fall pad.

Here's another pic of dumbass on a Rhino rock.

The view was great from up on the mountain.

Here's us all together Blake, Randy, Josh, Todd and Bobby.

Happy trails.
